Welcome to the Spinning Study Group
Our study group is comprised of HWFA members who express an interest in spinning yarn together or learning to spin yarn. We are an informal gathering scheduled to meet at the Boarding House on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. We use a number of different spinning devices, including drop spindles, supported spindles, spinning wheels, and electric spinners. We enjoy making yarn from many kinds of fibers, ranging from cotton to sheep wool, alpaca to yak and camel, to silk, to blends of different kinds of fibers. Our yarn ranges from lace weight to worsted weight and is spun in a variety of colorways.
Skeins of our members’ yarn are generally available in the Gift Shop. Some of our members occasionally offer classes for beginners as well as for those seeking new techniques, fibers, or spindles to add to their repertoire. Guests are welcome to drop in and observe during our regularly scheduled meetings. We are glad to share our knowledge, and there is only a small fee for visitors who come for a session or two before deciding whether to sign up for a formal class.
Sincerely,
Your Spinning Study Group Team,
Paula Ashworth, Karolyn Burkhart-Shultz, Charlotte Cornell-Simmons, Hazel Delcourt, Jill Leggio, and Elyse Meltz
